Tigers Open GSC Play With Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's tennis team opened Gulf South Conference play by defeating Montevallo, 6-1, Tuesday at the Vaughan Tennis Center.
 
The 21st-ranked Tigers improved to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in conference play. The match was the season opener for Montevallo.
 
"Today was a good day of tennis," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said, "and a good start to conference play."
 
Haina Franco, Heden Ly and Daryna Hukasian took care of business on singles courts 2, 3 and 6, winning in straight sets. Sarah Manseri and Valeria Arevalo won in match tiebreaks in the third set at No. 1 and No. 5 singles.
 
Manseri and Ly won at No. 1 doubles, while Franco and Hukasian took No. 2 to win the doubles point for West Alabama.
 
West Alabama travels to West Georgia for a Thursday GSC match. Montevallo plays Tuskegee in a neutral site match in Montgomery on Friday.
