Tigers Improve to 2-0 in GSC Play at UWG

CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Alabama won its second Gulf South Conference women's tennis match in three days by defeating West Georgia, 6-1, Thursday at Sunset Hills Country Club.
 
The victory improves the 21st ranked Tigers to 3-1 overall, 2-0 in GSC play. West Georgia is 1-2 and 0-2.
 
West Alabama jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the match by winning all three doubles courts. Sarah Manseri and Heden Ly were winners at No. 1, while Haina Franco and GSC player of the week Thea Yang won at No. 2. Morgan Bishop and Daryna Hukasian won at No. 3. 
 
West Alabama won five of six singles matches, with Franco, Ly, Yang, Valeria Arevalo and Hukasian claiming victories on courts two through six, respectively. Every Tiger singles win was in straight sets.
 
"This was a good win for the women," Tigers head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We have some time before our next match which will allow us to work on some things we need to."
 
West Alabama now waits 13 days to play again, hosting Mississippi College on Wednesday, March 10 at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. UWG is host to Central Alabama on Monday.
