HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - After splitting with Young Harris and Union yesterday, the Tigers split again with a loss against Harding and a win against Lincoln at the UAH Charger Chillout.
"I believe when we can actually compete as a full roster of 2021 we will be a team people will have to contend with," said West Alabama's head coach Carie Dever-Boaz.
GAME 1
Harding held the Tigers to a four run inning to defeat West Alabama, 8-4.
Out of ten total hits, Kacy Noland, Presley Witt, and Peyton Coots all collected two hits.
Breanna Forenberry went two innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out two and walking zero. Caleigh Wallace entered the game in relief, throwing two and a third innings allowing three hits with one strikeout. Kaeliegh Crutchfield tossed two-thirds innings respectively allowing no runs.
Abby McKee started off strong for the Tigers and scored in the first on a Lincoln fielding error.
UWA earned two more runs in the second. Noland earned two RBIs when Coots and Johnson rounded the bases to score.
Coots added one more run in the fourth by scoring on a Lincoln throwing error.
Harding came back in the fifth inning and scored five runs. Makenzie Chappell led the Bisons with three runs while Ashton Bryce earned four RBIs.
Harding held the Tigers off and closed out the game bringing the score 8-4.
GAME 2
The Tigers scored three runs in the fifth to go on to defeat Lincoln 9-6 Saturday afternoon.
Nicole Buccieri had a hit and two RBIs that led the seven hit attack for the Tigers.
Relief pitcher Crutchfield pitched four and a third innings allowing no runs with two strikeouts. Wallace earned the save to close out the game for the Tigers.
"Crutchfield went above and beyond for us today and so many of our babies really showed out," said Carie Dever-Boaz.
Before the Tigers scored, Lincoln led 6-0 in the third.
The Tigers bounced back at the bottom of the third. UWA scored on a McKee RBI walk that scored Witt. RBI single by Coots allowed Lexy House to score. The final run of the inning was scored by Coots bringing the score to 6-5, Lincoln still ahead.
In the fifth, Morgan Windham scored on a Lincoln throwing error. Buccieri knocked a single, earning two RBIs when Witt and Self scrambled around the bases to score.
The Tigers closed out the game with a run from Wallace in the sixth which led the Tigers to defeat Lincoln, 9-6.
"These ladies fought hard all weekend, being down ten players and having to just plain compete. They showed a lot of moxy and I am proud of their heart, " said Carie Dever-Boaz. "Truly a TEAM effort in every aspect."Â
The Tigers travel to Oxford, Alabama Feb. 12 to compete in the Oxford Tournament. UWA opens the tournament playing Tuskegee at 1 p.m.
