UWA Men Climb Above .500 in Win Over MC

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 20th-ranked West Alabama men's tennis team climbed to a game over .500 by defeating Mississippi College, 6-1, in a Gulf South Conference match Wednesday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
West Alabama improved to 3-2 overall, 2-0 in GSC play. Mississippi College is 1-3 and 1-1.
 
Starting with a sweep of the doubles courts, the Tigers were barely challenged, losing only at No. 6 singles. The Tigers won five of six singles courts in straight sets.
 
Christopher Bulus was dominating at No. 1 singles, defeating Matias Ballatore 6-0, 6-0, while Ilia Dehodiuk and Nuutti Jokinen recorded 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1 wins at singles courts three and four, respectively. Patricio Nieto was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 5.
 
Bulus and Vesanen won No. 1 doubles, 6-1. Jokinen and Noah Johansen were 6-2 winners at No. 2, while Dehodiuk and Anton Lof were 6-2 winner on doubles court No. 3.
 
The Tigers return to action Tuesday, facing Indianapolis on a neutral site court in Pensacola, Florida. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
