Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers and Chargers Battle to 1-1 Tie

Livingston, Ala. - West Alabama women's soccer team ended their 2021 GSC regular season with a 1-1 tie against Alabama Huntsville Friday night at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers clinched a spot in the GSC Championship Series by finishing third in Group A.

UWA is  now 3-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in GSC play. UAH is 3-3-1 and 1-3-1.

Alabama Huntsville opened the scoring in the 25th minute from a goal by Caroline Buchanan. The score held through the halftime break with the Chargers up, 1-0. 

Kaylah Butterworth scored her first goal of the season at the 71:12 mark off an assist from Lucy Critchell bringing the match to a tie.

The Tigers and Chargers battled in two overtimes but ended in a 1-1 draw. 

Shots in the game were even at 7-7 with the Chargers holding a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.

Tabitha Weldon recorded three saves in the match against Alabama Huntsville. 

One yellow card and 19 fouls were called in the matchup as the Chargers were called for nine and the Tigers called for 10.

The Tigers now enter postseason play as the squad competes Wednesday against Group B No. 6 Shorter. More information will be announced as it is available.
