Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Golden Goal Advances Tigers in Second OT, 1-0

Livingston, Ala.- In the final minutes of the second overtime period between West Alabama women's soccer team and Shorter, Paige Laidler found the back of the net off a penalty kick to hit the golden goal to advance the Tigers in the GSC Spring Championship Tournament to quarterfinals.

"I am very happy the ladies had the drive until the very end," UWA head coach Graeme Orr said. "Credit to Shorter and their goalkeeper, she had an amazing game. We will recover and prepare for Valdosta which will be the best team we will be faced with this spring."

The Tiger displayed a strong offensive performance and out shot the Hawks, 28-1, and won the shots on goal battle, 18-1. There were 11 corner kicks from UWA and one from Shorter.

Shorter's defense held the Tigers the whole match until Paige Laidler scored the golden goal off a penalty kick at the 108:14 mark. This was Laidler's second goal of the season.

Tabitha Weldon recorded one save in the victory. The Hawks goalie Emily Lopez had a huge defense performance and had 16 saves in the match.

Shorter committed 10 fouls in the contest compared to four for UWA.

West Alabama returns to action Sunday to compete against Group B No. 2 Valdosta State in Montgomery. More information will be announced when it is available.
