Tigers Defeat Montevallo 1-0, Advance to Quarterfinals

Livingston, Ala.- West Alabama men's soccer team advances in the GSC Spring Championship Tournament to quarterfinals with the 1-0 victory against Montevallo Thursday night at Tiger Stadium.

"That is exactly what the doctor ordered!" UWA head coach Ross Nelson said. "The lads battled from start to finish tonight and I can't fault any of their effort. As I said before we are from done."

The Tigers opened the scoring in the second half at the 61:54 mark by Vince Stans off an assist from Peter Oyetunji. 

West Alabama took 18 shots with 11 being on goal while Montevallo took nine shots total with four being on goal.

Jules Dechert recorded four saves in the victory over the Falcons.

There were two yellow cards, one red card and a total of 28 fouls in the match. Both teams were called for 14 fouls.

"We must build on this now and take the momentum with us into our next match. We have a tough test against AUM in the next round and it is absolutely vital that we perform to the best of our ability," Nelson said.

The Tigers return to action Sunday to battle Group B No. 1 Auburn Montgomery. More information will be announced when it is available.
