UWA Volleyball Set for Opening Round Match

ALL TIME MEETINGS
West Alabama and Shorter have met on the court 13 times and the Lady Hawks lead the series all-time 5-8. The Tigers won the last meeting between the two squads 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 27-25) on Nov. 1, 2019 in Livingston, Alabama.
 
WEST ALABAMA
West Alabama is 2-6 on the season and 1-3 in GSC Group A competition. The Tigers posted an 0-2 record last week to close Group A "regular season" with 3-0 losses to Mississippi College on March 18 and Alabama Huntsville on March 20. 
 
SHORTER
The Lady Hawks were 1-8 during the Spring Championship Series and 1-5 in Group B play after losses to Montevallo (3-1) and Auburn Montgomery (3-0) on March 20 with both matches taking place in Montgomery, Alabama at the AUM Athletics Complex. 
 
THE STREAK HAS BEEN BROKEN
It took eight matches and 31 sets, but the West Alabama Tigers had a difference name as the team leader in digs as Madison Fisher led with nine digs against UAH last Saturday. The leader in digs with 145 in the abbreviated season, MacKenzie Wells finished tied for second in the match with six digs alongside Beatriz Giordan. The junior from Fruita, Colorado is second in the GSC in total digs and third in digs per set (4.68).
 
TOP FIVE IN ASSISTS
Desiree Blount sits fifth in the GSC in assists this season with 207 total assists at a rate of 6.68 assists per set. The sophomore from Marietta, Georgia has been such a key cog in the UWA attack, no other Tiger has more than 40 assists as of today. 
 
GREEN WITH EXPERIENCE
Je'Bria Green has emerged as another key contributor this spring for the Tigers. The graduate transfer from Fort Wayne, Indiana has posted a team leading 21 total blocks with 17 block assists and four solo blocks along with 16 digs defensively. She is also third on the team with 46 kills and has passed two assists.
