LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Alabama Huntsville won two games against West Alabama at UWA Softball Complex. UAH outscored the Tigers 11-6 in the doubleheader Friday afternoon.
"It was a really frustrating day today," UWA head coach Carie Dever-Boaz said. "We didn't make crucial defensive plays. We are struggling to find the right combination to streak things together. We are at a crucial point to where we have to figure things out and make a run."
With the wins, the Chargers improved to 16-7 overall and 11-6 in GSC play while the Tigers dropped to 11-12 and 7-10.
Game 1
West Alabama led 1-0 in the second inning when Grace Self scored on a Kendall Johnson RBI single.
Alabama Huntsville scored five runs in the top of the fourth to lead 5-1, but UWA trimmed the UAH lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
In that inning for the Tigers, Kacy Noland scored on a LP Trammell RBI double and Trammell scored when ChrissyTubbs fouled out in foul territory at third base.
The Chargers tacked on another run in the seventh to defeat West Alabama, 6-3.
Trammell led the Tigers with a double, run scored and a RBI.
Noland (5-4) took the loss as she tossed the complete game giving up only three earned runs along with striking out one.
Game Two
Alabama Huntsville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth but the Tigers came back in the bottom half to take the 3-1 lead.
For the Tigers in the fourth inning, Tubbs scored on a Trammell RBI single. Mary Grace Sheffield reached base on a fielder's choice scoring Morgan Windham. Lexy House scored on a RBI sacrifice bunt, allowing the Tigers to take a 3-1 lead.
West Alabama held the lead until Alabama Huntsville pushed home two runs to tie the game in the top of the seventh.
UWA could not score in the bottom half and the game went into extra innings. In the top of the eight, UAH scored two runs to get the 5-3 win.
Hannah Mynard (1-0) went seven innings in the loss only giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out five.
Tubbs had two hits to lead the Tigers.
West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville are scheduled to finish the three-game series Saturday with a single game. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at UWA Softball Complex.
