Tiger Men Win Top 25 Tennis Matchup

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – West Alabama secured three singles wins in straight sets on the way to a 5-2 victory over Southern Arkansas in a NCAA Division II Top 25 men's tennis match Monday at Live Oaks Tennis Courts.
 
West Alabama, ranked 20th, evened its record at 2-2 with the win. No. 25 Southern Arkansas dropped to 6-3.
 
"This was a good win against a ranked team today," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Our players picked it up after yesterday's (Sunday) loss at Ouachita Baptist."
 
Wins by Christopher Bulus and Ilari Vesanen on Court 1, as well as Noah Johansen and Nuutti Jokinen on Court 3, secured the doubles point to begin the day on the right paw for the Tigers.
 
Bulus won a pair of tiebreak sets, 8-7 and 7-5, over Sander Jans to take No. 1 singles. Ilia Dehodiuk was a 7-6, 1-6, 10-1 winner over Marko Nikoliuk at No. 3 singles. Jokinen defeated Ole Lukas Valkyser 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 and Anton Lof was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Sofiane Bah at No. 6.
 
West Alabama returns to Gulf South Conference play by hosting Mississippi College on Wednesday at 3 p.m. SAU travels to Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.
