Women’s Soccer Falls on the Road to Delta State

Cleveland, Miss. - The Lady Statesmen handed the UWA women's soccer team its second straight GSC loss with a 2-1 triumph Monday at Parker Field at McCool.

UWA falls to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in GSC play. DSU improves to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 league play.

"Congratulations to Delta State's team, coach Hiller and his staff," UWA head coach Graeme Orr said. "They were better in every department today."

Delta State got the scoring started within the first 12 minutes of the game by Nicola Hauk. The Statesmen added another goal in the first half at the 33:56 mark by Rylee McGee. 

Megan Ongteco scored the only goal for the Tigers at the 88:57 mark. Ongteco led the team with three shots and one shot on goal. This was the second goal of the season for the junior from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  

The Statesmen out shot UWA, 10-8, and won the shots on goal battle, 6-3. 

One yellow card and 16 total fouls were called in the matchup as the Statesmen were called for 11 fouls and the Tigers called for five.

West Alabama closes out their GSC regular season as the Tigers host Alabama Huntsville Friday at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
