Tigers Host MUW and Union This Week

WHEN
vs. Mississippi University for Women - Wednesday, March 10 at 6 p.m.
vs. Union – Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m.

Pruitt Hall Gymnasium on the campus of the University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama.

ADMISSION
Admission is free for UWA Volleyball in 2021. The wearing of masks and social distancing is required. Doors will open one hour before match time and fans allowed in the gym will sit only in the bleachers on the opposite side of the court from the team benches.

ALL TIME MEETINGS
West Alabama and MUW have met on the court 23 times and MUW leads the series all-time 14-9. The Tigers won the last meeting against the Owls in 2002, 3-0. UWA and Union have met on the court 14 times and West Alabama leads the series 10-4. The Lady Bulldogs won the only meeting last year 3-2 in Livingston, Alabama. 
 
WEST ALABAMA
West Alabama is 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in GSC Group A competition. The Tigers lost a home match to Mississippi College, 3-2, before hitting the road to grab their first win of the GSC Spring Championship Series with a 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19) win over Christian Brothers. Ally Craig and Madison Fisher both posted nine kills to lead the squad's attack. Desiree Blount continued to be effective with 25 assists to keep the offense moving while also notching three service aces. MacKenzie Wells led the back row with 16 digs.
 
MISSISSIPPI UNIVERSITY FOR WOMEN
The Owls are 1-5 overall this year after grabbing a 3-1 win last time out on March 5 on the road against Judson College. Iyana Canada led with 14 kills and added a match-high three blocks. Evelyn Pruitt passed her season high of 26 assists while Loren Schmitt finished with 18 digs and six service aces.
 
UNION
The Lady Bulldogs are currently 3-0 on the season after defeating Lee, 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-15) last time out. Union is also 3-1 in GSC Group A play thanks to a 3-0 victory over CBU to start the season. The team will face the Alabama Huntsville Lady Chargers on March 10 before making the trip down to Pruitt Hall Gymnasium to battle the Tigers.
 
IT'S BEEN A LONG LONG TIME
The Tigers and Mississippi University for Women are facing each other in volleyball for the first time since 2002. MUW was a member of the Gulf South Conference from 1993-2003 and chose to reclassify to NCAA Division III following the 2002-2003 academic year.
 
ONCE, BUT NEVER TWICE
Union and West Alabama have played 14 times with the Lady Bulldogs collecting four wins, however Union has never won two consecutive matches against UWA. The squad has a chance to do that this weekend as the Lady Bulldogs won in their last trip to Livingston, Alabama, 3-2, back on Oct. 6, 2019.
 
KENZIE FRENZY
MacKenzie Wells continues to shine as the libero for the Tigers. With 83 digs at a rate of 4.61 per set, the junior from Fruita, Colorado nearly has double to number of digs than her next teammate. Madison Fisher is next on the list with 46 and Desiree Blount has posted 45 digs.

ATTACKING ALLY
Ally Craig continues to be the leading attacker for UWA as the sophomore from Ringgold, Georgia has posted the team leads with 53 kills, 2.89 kills per set, 150 total attacks, .213 attacking percentage and 57.0 points in 18 sets played so far this season. 
 
ACES AND ASSISTS
Desiree Blount continues to play a large role in the West Alabama attack. Serving as the primary setter, the sophomore from Marietta, Georgia has posted 138 assists (7.87 assists per set) in 18 sets played this season. Blount is also the team leader in service aces with eight. 

UP NEXT
West Alabama will wrap the GSC Spring Championship Series with two road matches. The first is a non-Group A contest against Mississippi College on March 17 at 6 p.m. in Clinton, Mississippi. UAH will host the Tigers for the Group A and regular season finale on March 20 starting at 1 p.m. in Huntsville, Alabama.
