No. 6 Tigers Still Undefeated in GSC

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The 6th-ranked West Alabama women's tennis team remained perfect in Gulf South Conference play and won its seventh straight match by defeating Valdosta State, 5-2, Sunday at the Carson Tennis Complex.
 
The Tigers are now 12-2 overall and 8-0 in league play. Valdosta State is 4-7 and 4-3.
 
After losing the doubles point, West Alabama rallied to win five of six matches on the singles courts to stash away the victory. 
 
Hardija Vidnere and Daryna Hukasian defeated Birte Langesnstein and Julia Saving at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, for the Tigers lone win there. Haina Franco, ranked 43rd in singles, defeated Eva Rivoal 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to tie the score. 
 
Estee Widdershoven beat Sarah Manseri at No. 1 singles to give VUS a 2-1 edge in the match, but West Alabama stormed back to win three of the next four singles matches in straight sets for the win. Heden Ly was a winner at No. 3, followed by Hukasian, Thea Yang and Valeria Arevalo at No. 4, 5 and 6.
 
The Tigers remain in GSC play by hosting Delta State at the Vaughan Tennis Complex Tuesday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. VSU remains in Pensacola to play Mississippi College Monday.
