Tigers Lock in Five Seed With Rout of CBU

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – West Alabama secured the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Tennis Championship by cruising by Christian Brothers, 7-0, Thursday.
 
West Alabama ends it regular season with a 7-8 overall record, 5-4 in GSC play. Christian Brothers is 6-8 and 1-7.
 
After winning all three doubles courts to jump to a 1-0 lead in the match, the Tigers then won five of six singles matches in straight sets. Ilia Dehodiuk won a tiebreak over Andres Calzacorta at No. 3 singles in the only match that was truly contested.
 
"This was a good win for the men," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Now we can turn our attention completely to the GSC Tournament looking for a good showing there."
 
Christian Brothers finishes its regular season Friday against Valdosta State in a neutral site game in Carrollton, Georgia. West Alabama will play next in the GSC Championships April 22-24 in Montgomery, Alabama.
 
West Alabama is one of three programs that have already clinched a seed in the conference tourney. Valdosta State will be the No. 1 seed and West Florida the No. 2. Delta State, Auburn-Montgomery, Lee and Montevallo have all clinched a berth, but not a seeding yet.
