Tiger Women Finish Regular Season Unbeaten in League

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Sixth-ranked West Alabama put an exclamation point on already earning the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Women's Tennis Championships by defeating Christian Brothers, 6-1, Thursday to finish the regular season undefeated in league play for the second time in three years.
 
West Alabama has won 24 of its last 25 GSC regular season matches dating back to the start of the 2019 season, establishing itself as a dominant program in the league, the region and the nation. 
 
The Tigers head into 2021 GSC tourney play with a 14-2 overall record, 10-0 in league play. Christian Brothers is 10-4 and 5-4 heading into its final regular season match Friday against Valdosta State in Carrollton, Georgia.
 
"A good win today," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "Sarah (Manseri) had her chances against the 11th-ranked player in the nation who is undefeated on the year."
 
Heden Ly and Thea Yang, along with Hardija Vidnere and Daryna Hukasian won a No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, to take that point. The Tigers won five of six singles matches, four in straight sets, to ice away the win. Manseri was UWA's lone setback, losing to Raquel Amaro 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.
 
The GSC Championships are set for April 22-24 in Montgomery, Alabama. UWA will be the No. 1 seed and West Florida is set at No. 2. Already qualified for a tourney berth, but not yet seeded are Auburn-Montgomery, Lee, Christian Brothers, Valdosta State and Mississippi College.
