AUM Hands Tigers First GSC Loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After losing the doubles point Auburn-Montgomery stormed back to win four straight singles matches on the way to a 5-2 Gulf South Conference men's tennis match Saturday at the AUM Tennis Complex.
 
The loss was the first in GSC play for West Alabama, who dropped to 5-5 overall, 3-1 in the league. AUM improved to 8-5 and 3-2.
 
"Today was a tough match against a strong team," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We pushed them in a lot of spots, but need to push ourselves to keep getting better."
 
Ilari Vesanen and Ilia Dehodiuk, along with Christopher Bulus and Nuutti Jokinen, won at No. 1 and 2 doubles, respectively to put the Tigers out front 1-0 in the match.
 
The Warhawks then won four straight singles matches, two in straight sets, to seal the win before Bulus defeated Muhamad Bedwan at No. 1 singles 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. It was the lone win in singles for the Tigers.
 
West Alabama remains on the road, playing at No. 4 West Florida on Monday. First serve is set for 1 p.m. AUM visits Montevallo on Wednesday.
