No. 4 Argos Handle UWA

PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Florida lived up to its No. 4 national ranking by defeating West Alabama, 6-1, in men's Gulf South Conference tennis Monday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.

The win improved West Florida to 12-4 overall, 6-1 in GSC play. West Alabama dropped to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

UWA's Christopher Bulus and Nuutti Jokinen managed a 6-5 (4) victory at No. 2 doubles over Serdar Bojadjiev and Lluis Miro, but it wasn't enough as the Argos won at No. 1 and 3 to take the doubles point.

"This was a match against very tough West Florida team," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "We came up short in some matches that were close enough to go either way."

Jokinen posted West Alabama's only win in singles competition, defeating Salvador Bandeira 7-6 (5), 6-2 at No. 4. Bulus and Ilari Vesanen both took the Argos to three sets before losing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. The loss was just the second of the season for Bulus in singles play.
