MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The West Alabama volleyball team will travel to Milledgeville, Ga. to participate in the
2021 PBC/GSC Crossover hosted by Georgia College. The three-day event pits teams in the Peach Belt Conference against those in the Gulf South Conference.
The tournament begins on Thursday, Sept. 16, with West Alabama making its first appearance on Friday, Sept. 16, against Augusta University at 11 a.m CT/ noon ET. The Tigers will come back to the court on Saturday, Sept. 18, to take on USC-Aiken at 10 a.m. CT/11 a.m ET and Georgia college at 2 p.m. CT/ 3 p.m. ET.
General admission to the tournament is free, with live stats and video available for fans at home.
After a rough opening weekend at the 2021 Dakota's Patriot Classic, the Tigers enter the tournament 0-3 and are searching for their first victory of the season. UWA will look to outside hitters Nathalia Medieros and
Madison Fisher on the offensive side of the ball and
MacKenzie Wells for defense.
Medieros leads the Tigers in kills and points. The junior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has recorded 23 kills over three matches to average 2.3 kills per set. She also has one assist, 12 digs, a solo block, and a block assist for 24.5 points this season.
Fisher has played and started in every set and match to record 20 kills and 21.0 points. She also has one service ace and 19 digs.
Wells has been the driving force behind the Tigers defense with a team-high 45 digs. She has played in all 10 sets to average 4.5 digs per set with no reception errors. The Fruita, Colo. native has also total of seven assists and one service ace.
Helping in the setter position, returner
Desiree Blount leads the team with 41 assists. She also has three kills, two service aces, and 21 digs.
