UWA Volleyball Took a 3-0 Loss to Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. - West Alabama volleyball team took a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-18) defeat from Mississippi College in a Gulf South Conference match Tuesday evening inside A.E. Woof Coliseum. 
 
The Tigers are now 5-14 overall and dropped to 0-7 in GSC play. The Choctaws improved to 15-2 overall and are now 5-2 in the conference. 
 
Nathalia Medeiros led UWA attackers with eight kills, hitting .375. Madison Fisher had six kills. Johanna Martin added four slams. Chyna Dixon dished out eight assists. Maddie Van Dyke had seven assists and had two service aces. Defensively, MacKenzie Wells had 11 digs. Chyna Dixon sent back four blocks. 
 
UWA went on three big runs in the first set to pull ahead with an 18-14 lead, but the Choctaws went on a 9-0 run to take the 23-18 lead. Mississippi College claimed the final two points of the match to win set one 25-20.
 
Trailing 8-11 in the second set, the Choctaws went on a 6-1 run to jump to a 17-9 lead. UWA put up six more points, but MC closed out set two with a 25-15 win. Both teams had big runs, but MC pulled away to win set three 25-18 and claim the 3-0 victory over UWA.
 
MC held the edge in kills (35-20), digs (40-25), assists (30-16), and aces (9-2). UWA held the advantage in blocks (4-3).
 
MC Lydia Paulette paced the Choctaws with 10 kills, hitting. 400. Lexie Laurendine had 26 assists and 10 digs. 
 
The Tigers return to action on Friday as they host West Georgia in a GSC matchup. First serve is set for 4 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
