UWA Women’s Basketball Defeats UPR Bayamon in Season Opener

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - West Alabama women's basketball team opened up its season with a 64-58 win over the University of Puerto Rico Bayamon Friday evening.

Bria Dent posted a double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Maryanne Logsdon added 13 points and five rebounds. Jala Williams dished out nine assists and had eight points.

As a unit, UWA shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the free throw line.

The game was tied heading into halftime, 34-34. Both teams scored 16 points in the third quarter to bring the score to 50-all. UWA outscored Bayamon in the fourth quarter, 14-8, to close the game with a 64-58 win.

The Tigers held UPR Bayamon to 29.2 percent (19-of-65) from the field and 18.5 percent (5-of-27) from the three-point line.

UPR Bayamon had two players score in double figures. Carla Colon led the team with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Abeliz Rodriguez posted 10 points and collected two rebounds.

West Alabama closes out the Puerto Rico Tournament against Winona State on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
