Tigers Fall in Day One at UAH Charger Chillout

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - West Alabama softball team dropped two games on day one of the UAH Charger Chillout. The Tigers fell to Young Harris 8-2 and Lincoln Memorial 3-2 on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater Miracle Field. The Tigers are now 2-4 on the season.

Game One
The Tigers fell to Young Harris College 8-2 out of the Peach Belt Conference in the first game of the tournament. 

Young Harris started off strong in the first inning, scoring two runs to gain a 2-0 advantage over West Alabama. Both the second and third innings were scoreless innings. 

In the fourth inning, UWA scored two runs to tie the game. Peyton Coots reached on an error, driving in Cassie Matlock to cut the Mountain Lions' lead 2-1. UWA scored one more run when Hannah Mynard also reached on an error, scoring Kendall Johnson to tie the game. 

The Mountain Lions had a big fifth inning, gaining four runs to take control of the game and improve their lead to 6-2. 

In the seventh inning, Lincoln Memorial earned two runs to claim the 8-2 victory over the Tigers. 

Kaeleigh Crutchfield (1-2) absorbed the loss for the Tigers. The Clinton, Miss. native pitched three innings, giving up six earned runs and striking out four.  

Hannah Mynard (1-0) pitched four innings for the Tigers. The Enterprise, Ala. native gave up no earned runs and struck out two.

Game Two
It was a close fought battle, but the Tigers fell in game two of the tournament to Lincoln Memorial 3-2. 

The Tigers started off strong, scoring two runs in the first inning. Coots RBI single, advanced Kacy Noland to third and scored Matlock. 

Coots stole second and Noland stole home to gain the two run advantage over LMU, 2-0. 

Lincoln Memorial came firing back, scoring three earned runs in the second inning, allowing the Railsplitters to take a 3-2 lead over the Tigers.

Neither team scored the rest of the game, allowing LMU to claim the 3-2 victory over UWA.

Kaeleigh Crutchfield (1-3) took the loss for the Tigers. She pitched the complete game, giving up three earned runs while striking out two.

The Tigers close out day two of the UAH Charger Chillout against Carson-Newman at 10 a.m., followed by University of Indianapolis at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13 at Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater Miracle Field in Albertville, Alabama.
