Women’s Basketball Claims 66-48 Win over UWG in Saturday Action

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama women's basketball team had four Tigers score in double figures to defeat West Georgia 66-48 in a Gulf South Conference matchup on Saturday night in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. Win the win, the Tigers improved to 14-8 overall and are now 8-6 in GSC play. The Wolves dropped 8-12 overall and are now 5-10 in conference.

Tazsa Garrett-Hammett scored 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and had three steals in the matchup to lead the Tigers' offense. Bria Dent added 14 points and brought down eight boards. Lauryn Lilly chipped in 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Jada Golden added 10 points, five assists, and four rebounds. 

UWA shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field, 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the free-throw line, and 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from beyond the arc.

UWA had a big first quarter, outscoring UWG 18-8. The Tigers pressed on and scored 12 points in the second quarter compared to the Wolves 11 points. West Alabama had a 30-19 advantage over West Georgia heading into halftime. 

The Tigers had their best quarter coming out of halftime. UWA scored 21 points compared to UWG's 13, giving the Tigers a 51-32 advantage over the Wolves at the end of the third quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, the Wolves outscored the Tigers 16-15, but UWA held onto the lead, claiming the 66-48 victory over West Georgia. 

The Wolves shot 28.6 percent (16-of-56) from the field, 23.1 percent (6-of-26) from beyond the arc, 50 percent (10-of-20) from the free throw line.

The Tigers host Alabama Huntsville on Wednesday, Feb. 16 with a tip-off time at 5 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
