LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Outhitting Emmanuel College 10-5, the West Alabama baseball team (0-9) had very few issues getting on base Sunday afternoon in the final game of three days of competition. The trouble was getting stranded runners home.
The Tigers left 18 on base while the Lions only had four in the effort. The difference made the game with Emmanuel defeating UWA, 8-5.
SCORING
B1\ Tigers first in the bottom of the third inning to lead Emmanuel 1-0. After Josh Bower reached base and advanced to second on an error, he came home on a ground out by Connor Christian.
T5\ Emmanuel scored its first run and then took the lead after a series of miscues from the defense. The Lions scored two runs on one hit and two errors to take a 2-1 advantage.
B5\ West Alabama answered in the bottom frame. Brayden Lyman singled to third base to lead off for the Tigers. Christian followed with a double to left field, and both runners came home on a double from Jacob Messina. Messina came home on a sacrifice fly with the RBI credited to Kyle Vogler for the last run of the inning. UWA reclaimed the lead 4-2.
T6\ The Lions locked the game at 4 in the top of the sixth. One run scored on a single through the left side, and a second came in on a fielder's choice.
T7\ Errors bite the Tigers in the top of the seventh inning. Emmanuel scored two runs on an error by the shortstop to grab a 6-4 advantage.
B7\ West Alabama added one in the seventh. Colden Peeples reached base on an error by the Lions' second baseman. He scored on a single by Jake Nemith. The Tigers cut Emmanuel's lead, 6-5.
T9\ In its final at-bat, Emmanuel College scored two runs for its second win over West Alabama. With two runners on base from a double and an error, a Lion single brought the two runners home. EC defeats UWA, 8-5.
AT BAT
Jake Nemith led the Tigers in hitting. The Pace, Fla., native made five plate appearances for three hits (one double) against the Lions for one RBI.
Jacob Messina led UWA in scoring, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, two RBIs, and one run.
Four other Tigers recorded runs in the match-up. Josh Bower, Brayden Lyman, Connor Christian, and Colden Peeples made it across home plate.
For the Lions, Brody Campbell had two RBIs, and Cody Minnis had two runs.
ON THE MOUND
Jackson Wynn took his first loss of the season against Emmanuel College. The junior right-hander entered the game in the seventh and pitched 1.0 innings for two unearned runs and two walks.
True freshman Hunter Parkers received the first win of his career at EC. He pitched 2.0 innings for two his against and one unearned run.
Clifford Brown received the save. He closed out the game with two hits against and three strikeouts.

The West Alabama baseball team will travel to Fairfield, Ala. to take on Miles College on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m.
