UWA Softball Splits Day Two at the UAH Charger Chillout

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - West Alabama softball split day two at the UAH Charger Chillout. The Tigers dropped the first game to Carson-Newman 3-1 then defeated University of Indianapolis 10-7 on Sunday, Feb. 13 at Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater Miracle Field. The Tigers are 3-5 on the season. 

Game One 
The Tigers fell to Carson-Newman 3-1 in the first game on the second day of the tournament. 
 
In the first inning, the Eagles got on the scoreboard first to take a 1-0 lead over the Tigers. The second inning was a scoreless inning for both teams.

In the second inning, Carson-Newman improved its lead and added a run to gain the 2-0 advantage over West Alabama.

The Tigers scored their only run of the game in the third inning. Cassie Matlock singled to right field. She then stole second, advanced to third, and scored on an Eagle error to cut Carson-Newman's lead to 2-1.

In the fifth inning, the Eagles earned one run to improve their lead to 3-1. 

Neither team scored in the sixth and seventh inning, allowing Carson-Newman to claim the 3-1 win over West Alabama. 

Hannah Mynard (1-1) took the loss for the Tigers. The Enterprise, Ala. native pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run and striking out 11.

Game Two
The Tigers rallied in the fifth inning to claim the 10-7 win over University of Indianapolis in the second game on the second day in the tournament.

The Greyhounds took a big 3-0 lead over the Tigers in the first inning. In the second inning, Indianapolis pressed on and scored four more runs to gain a 7-0 advantage over West Alabama. 

In the third inning, the Tigers put three runs on the scoreboard. Freshman Taylor Clegg singled. Kendall Johnson reached on a Greyhound error to first base, advancing Clegg to third. Johnson stole second while Clegg scored, cutting Indianapolis' lead to 7-1.

Right after Clegg scored, LP Trammell hit a two-run homer, driving in Johnson, bringing the score to 7-3.

In the fourth inning, UWA added another run when Clegg tripled, scoring pinch runner Karley McDaniel, trimming Indianapolis' lead to 7-4. McDaniel pinch ran for Hannah Sartain. 

The Tigers pressed on and had a huge fifth inning. Kacy Noland's RBI single, scored Matlock, bringing the game to 7-5.

In the fifth inning, Rylie Grantz reached on a Greyhound error, advancing Grantz to second and Kailey Hunt to third, allowing Noland to score. Sartain then singled, advanced to second then third on another Greyhound error, then scored, allowing Hunt and Grantz to also score, giving the Tigers the 9-7 lead over Indianapolis. 

Neither team scored in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, UWA scored one run. Matlock's sacrifice fly to center field drove in LP Trammell

The Greyhounds didn't score any runs in the bottom of the seventh, allowing the Tigers to claim the 10-7 win over Indianapolis. 

Kaeleigh Crutchfield (2-3) claimed the win for the Tigers. The Clinton, Miss. native pitched 6.2 innings for UWA. She gave up four earned runs and struck out two.

The Tigers battle Tuskegee in a doubleheader game on Wednesday, Feb. 16. First pitch is set for noon at TU Softball Field in Tuskegee, Alabama.
