UWA Softball Sweeps Tuskegee in Midweek Matchup

TUSKEGEE, Ala. - West Alabama softball team swept Tuskegee University in the midweek matchup doubleheader game at TU Softball Field on Wednesday evening. With the wins, the Tigers improved to 5-5 on the season.

Game One
The Tigers took down Tuskegee 5-1 in game one of the doubleheader. UWA had a total of eight hits, four RBIs, three doubles, and 10 stolen bases to defeat the Golden Tigers in the matchup.

Cassie Matlock went 3-for-3 at the plate. The senior outfielder had one run, an RBI, and two stolen bases to lead the Tigers in game one.

In the first inning, Kacy Noland doubled, driving in Cassie Matlock to take the 1-0 lead over the Golden Tigers. In the bottom of the first, Tuskegee scored a run to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second inning, the Tigers scored two more runs, gaining the 3-0 advantage over Golden Tigers. Lexy House grounded out to third base, driving in Kendall Johnson. Matlock's RBI single, scored Kelsie Gilliam.

The Tigers pressed on in the third inning, earning their last two runs of the game. Johnson's double drove in LP Trammell bringing the score to 4-1. Johnson advanced to third on a wild pitch then stole home to bring the score to 5-1. 

The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings were all scoreless innings, allowing West Alabama to claim the 5-1 victory over Tuskegee.

Kaeleigh Crutchfield (3-2) pitched a complete game. The Clinton, Miss. native gave up an earned run and struck out two.

Game Two
West Alabama destroyed Tuskegee 16-2 in the second game of the doubleheader. UWA went 13-for-24 at the plate. The Tigers had 14 RBIs, eight doubles, one homerun, and four stolen bases to claim the victory over the Golden Tigers.

In the first inning, Cassie Matlock scored for the Tigers, giving UWA a 1-0 lead over Tuskegee.

UWA earned four runs in the second inning. Rylie Grantz RBI single, scored Riley Sullivan, improving the Tigers lead to 2-0. Matlock doubled, driving in Grantz and Kendall Johnson, giving UWA a 4-0 advantage. Matlock then scored another run  to improve the lead to 5-0.

In the third inning, Sullivan doubled to left center, scoring Hannah Mynard. Grantz hit a two-run homer, driving in Sullivan and improving UWA's lead to 8-0.

In the fourth inning, Matlock, House, Trammell, Noland, and Sullivan each scored, giving the Tigers a 13-0 advantage. 

Tuskegee scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Tigers lead to 13-2.

In the final inning of the game, House doubled, scoring Matlock and Johnson. House closed out the game with one more run to claim the 16-2 victory over Tuskegee in game two. 

Kacy Noland (1-1) claimed the win for the Tigers. The Carrollton, Ala. native gave up two earned runs and struck out six
