Two Tigers Scored in Double Figures in the 69-53 Loss Against Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Tazsa Garrett-Hammett and Bria Dent both scored in double figures Monday evening when the West Alabama women's basketball team took a 69-53 defeat from Lee University at Paul Dana Walker Arena. 

The Tigers dropped to 15-10 overall and are now 9-8 in GSC play. The Flames improved to 23-7 overall and are now 17-4 in GSC play. 

UWA shot 41.7 percent (20-of-48) from the field, 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the free throw line, and 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from beyond the arc.

Garrett-Hammett led the Tigers with 23 points and four rebounds. Dent added 14 points and eight rebounds. 

Defense started off strong on both sides during the game. Both teams held each other to only nine points in the first quarter.  

Lee outscored UWA 21-6 in the second quarter. Four of the six points came from Garrett-Hammett, while the other two came from Dent. The Flames went into the half with a 30-15 lead over the Tigers.

Coming out of the break, the Tigers had their best half. UWA scored 19 points, while Lee put up 24, improving the Flames lead to 54-34.

In the fourth quarter, Garrett-Hammett came out strong with a driving layup at the 9:17 mark, cutting the Flames lead to 54-36. UWA outscored Lee 19-15 but it was not enough to take the lead. Lee claimed the 69-53 win over West Alabama. 

Lee shot 44.7 percent (21-of-47) from the field, 68 percent (17-of-25) from the free throw line, and 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from beyond the arc.

Lee guard Halle Hughes scored 21 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals for the Flames. 

The Tigers host Delta State on Thursday, Feb. 24 with a tip-off time at 5 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium in Livingston, Ala.
