Regular Season Champions!!!

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Three Tigers scored in double figures to lead West Alabama men's basketball team to defeat Mississippi College 65-43 to claim the Gulf South Conference Regular Season Championship title Saturday evening in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. 

The Tigers wrapped up the regular season with a 23-5 overall record and are 16-4 in GSC play. 

Shardarrion Allen scored 14 points with six rebounds and two assists. Justin Allison added 13 points, five assists, three steals, and three rebounds. Kortrijk Miles contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, and had two steals. 

UWA shot 49 percent (24-of-49) from the field, 40 percent (8-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from the free throw line.

Mississippi College was leading the game 14-5 at the 14:07 mark. With 13:46 minutes remaining in the first half, the Tigers went on a 21-0 run to take the 26-14 lead over the Choctaws.

With 6:56 remaining in the first half, the Tigers closed out the half with a 12-3 run to improve the lead to 38-17 heading into halftime. 

Coming out of halftime, the Tigers went on an 8-2 run. Mississippi College snapped the run and also went on an 8-2 run at the 15:35 mark. With 10:35 remaining it became a back-and forth battle, but UWA held on to the lead to close out the game and claim the 65-43 win over the Choctaws.

Mississippi College shot 39.5 percent (17-of-43) from the field, 8.3 percent (1-of-12) from beyond the arc, and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the free throw line.

MC forward Galen Smith scored 25 points and brought down six boards in the matchup.

The Tigers return to Pruitt Hall on Tuesday, March 1 to face Delta State in the first round of the GSC Championship Tournament. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
