Match Recap: #5 Women's Tennis |

Women's Tennis Falls to No. 1 Ranked Barry 4-0

EDMOND, Okla. – No. 6 West Alabama women's tennis lost to No. 1 Barry 4-0 in the semi-finals of the 2022 ITA Division II Women's National Team Indoor Championships Sunday afternoon at the Edmond Center Court. 
 
"A very competitive match against a strong team, that has won national championships. We learned a lot from this and I would love for us to have the opportunity to play them again," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said. 
 
West Alabama falls to 4-2 on the season and Barry moves to 7-0. 
 
The Tigers lost a pair of doubles matches which led Barry to receive the doubles point. Haina Franco and Katia de la Garza were winning 5-4 when Barry clinched the point. Their match was left unfinished. 
 
Barry won three singles matches which gave them the three points they needed to get the win. 
 
Franco won her first set 6-4 and was trailing 2-3 when the match was called. Garza lost her first set 4-6, then won her second set 6-2 when the Buccaneers clinched the win. 
 
The Tigers will face the loser of Indianapolis and Central Oklahoma at 8 a.m. Monday at the Edmond Center Court in Edmond, Okla.
