Men's Tennis Falls to GVSU in Close Match

PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Alabama men's tennis took its third loss in a row against Grand Valley State Thursday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex in a neutral site match by a score of 4-3. 
 
"The men had a tough battle today and lost a very close match," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said. 
 
UWA falls to 2-4 on the season and GVSU improves to 8-2. 
 
Lucas Hammond and Ilia Dehodiuk got a doubles win against Freddy Cassio and Tomas Oliveira 6-2 however, the Lakers took the other two doubles to get the point. 
 
Ilari Vesanen, Nuutti Jokinen, and Lucas Hammond were able to win their singles matches to get the Tigers to three points. It was not enough and the Lakers were able to get the win. 

UWA will return to Pensacola on Saturday and take on St. Mary's (TX).

6. Ignacio Morera-Lucas (GVM) def. Patricio Nieto (UWAM) 6-1, 6-3 

Doubles competition 

1. Josep Canyadell/Sebastian Arce (GVM) def. Marcel Hornung/Ilari Vesanen (UWAM) 6-3 
2. Lucas Hammond/Ilia Dehodiuk (UWAM) def. Freddy Cossio/Tomas Oliveira (GVM) 6-2 
3. Sean Miller/Martin Matov (GVM) def. Patricio Nieto/Nuutti Jokinen (UWAM) 6-3
