Late Innings Allow UWF to Push Past UWA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - Three home runs in the seventh inning of the game pushed West Florida past West Alabama's softball team, allowing the Argonauts to claim the 15-13 win over the Tigers on Saturday afternoon at UWA Softball Complex. With the win, the Argonauts won the GSC series.

The Tigers dropped to 12-12 overall and are now 4-5 in GSC play. The Argonauts remain first in the conference and improved their overall record 17-3 and are now 12-0 in the conference.  

LP Trammell led the Tigers from the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and two home runs. She collected four RBIs and scored three runs. 

UWA started off strong in the first inning, pushing four runs across the plate. The Tigers hit a single from Kelsie Gilliam and two doubles, one from Hannah Mynard and Trammell, taking the 4-1 lead over the Argonauts. 

UWA extended the lead to 5-1 in the second inning off of Kacy Noland's solo shot home run. 

In the third inning, the Argonauts had two hits and scored one run, cutting the Tigers lead to 5-2. 

Trammell started things off in the bottom of the third with a solo shot home run. Noland's sacracife fly, brought Lexy House across the plate, extending the Tigers lead to 7-2.  

West Florida had five hits and scored eight runs combined over the fourth and fifth inning. 

West Alabama scored one run in the fourth inning from Cassie Matlock off of Trammell's sacrifice fly. The Tigers had three hits and pushed four runs across the plate in the fifth inning. House scored off of Taylor Clegg's sacrifice fly. The other runs came from Nicole Buccieri's home run, bringing teammates Matlock and Clegg home, taking the 12-10 lead over the Argonauts. 

Two home runs were hit in the sixth inning for both teams. UWF Madelyn Vasquez hit her third home run of  the series. Trammell slammed her second solo shot home run of the day to center field to keep the lead, 13-11.

In the seventh inning, the Argonauts hit three back-to-back home runs. Two were solo home runs, while one was a two-run homer. This allowed UWF to take the 15-13 lead over the Tigers.

The Tigers could not produce any hits in the seventh inning, ending the hard fought battle between UWA and UWF in the Argonauts favor, 15-13.

Kaeleigh Crutchfield (4-6) took the loss for UWA. The Clinton, Miss. native pitched seven innings, gave up seven earned runs, struck out five, and walked one. Hannah Mynard gave up seven earned runs, struck out seven, and walked three over four innings. 

Montana Young (4-0) claimed the win for the Argonauts. Young pitched 4.2 innings, gave up five earned runs off six hits, struck out two and walked one.

UWF Vasquez led the Argonauts from the plate. She went 3-for-5, collected three RBIs, and scored two runs.  Vasquez closed out the series with four home runs, while UWF outfielder Jessica Ford had three in the series.

The Tigers return to action Saturday and open up the GSC series with a doubleheader against Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tenn. First pitch is set for noon.
