Tiger Tennis Splits With SAU

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama men's and women's tennis split its matches against Southern Arkansas with the women winning 4-0 and the men losing 0-4 at the Vaughan Tennis Complex Sunday afternoon.

The No. 14 UWA women improve to 9-4 while the men drop to 3-5.

The women got things going by winning the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Then at singles, Almudena Sanz, Haina Franco, and Katia de la Garza won their matches in two sets to get the win for UWA.

"A good win for the women against a team that has struggled with injuries. SAU beat a ranked opponent in its last match," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said.

On the men's side, the Tigers were swept in doubles all scores were 6-3. The SAU men were ranked No. 10 in the country.

In singles the Tigers had leads at singles #1, #2, and #3 after the first set but, SAU's men were able to bounce back and complete the sweep of the Tigers.

"Their men are a very good team and they played great doubles and we came out strong in singles but, SAU responded with great effort, and we rolled over. We have a great chance to rebound tomorrow," Beaman said.

The men will look to bounce back on Monday against Ouachita Baptist at 10 a.m. and play Spring Hill at 2 p.m. at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. The women will be back in action Friday when they host Lee.
