Tigers Complete GSC Series Sweep Over West Georgia

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama softball team pounded out 14 hits, eight being in the sixth inning, to come away with the 12-4 victory over West Georgia and claim the Gulf South Conference series sweep over the Wolves Sunday afternoon at UWA Softball Complex. 

The Tigers improved to 17-13 overall and 9-6 in GSC play. The Wolves dropped to 11-21 overall and are now 4-12 in the conference.

LP Trammell led the Tigers from the plate, going 3-for-3. The junior shortstop collected three RBIs and scored two runs. Hannah Mynard went 3-for-4 at the plate. The junior pitcher collected two RBIs and scored two runs. 

UWA started the first inning off with three hits and two runs. The three hits came from Kacy Noland, Mynard, and Trammell. Mynard's RBI single scored Noland. Trammell singled, bringing home Cassie Matlock.

The Wolves pushed three runners across the plate in the third inning. UWG Kristyn Nix hit a two-run homer and a sacrifice fly brought another Wolves home, allowing UWG to take the 3-2 lead. 

The Tigers added two more runs in the third inning. Mynard and Trammell both scored off of wild pitches, giving UWA a 4-3 advantage.

In the fifth inning, Trammell's sacrifice fly scored Matlock, extending the Tigers lead to 5-3. 

The Tigers rallied in the sixth inning, putting up seven runs and eight hits. Emily Cowart, Nicole Buccieri, Kelsie Gilliam, Peyton Coots, Clegg, Matlock, Mynard, and Trammell each had a hit. With the seven runs, UWA closed out the game in the sixth inning and claimed the 12-4 victory over West Georgia.

Mynard (9-3) pitched a complete game for the Tigers. The junior gave up three earned runs, walked four, and struck out three. 

UWG pitcher Macy Ann McKnight (6-8) took the loss for the Wolves. She gave up eight earned runs and walked three over 5.1 innings of work.

The Tigers open the three-game series against Auburn Montgomery with a doubleheader on April 2. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at AUM Softball Complex in Montgomery, Ala.
