Tigers Come Up Short in DH against AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - West Alabama softball team dropped two to Auburn Montgomery in the Gulf South Conference doubleheader Saturday evening at AUM Softball Complex. The Tigers took a 10-1 defeat in game one and fell 5-4 in game two in extra innings. 

The Tigers dropped to 17-15 overall and are now 9-8 in GSC play. The Warhawks improved to 26-6 overall and are 14-3 in the conference. 

Game One
The Tigers took a 10-1 defeat from AUM in game one of the doubleheader.

Kacy Noland went 2-for-3 from the plate with one double and an RBI in the contest. Cassie Matlock and Grace Self each collected one hit. 

The Warhawks had seven hits and 10 RBIs. 

The Tigers trailed 8-0 entering the fifth inning. Noland doubled, bringing Kendall Johnson home, to cut the Warhawks lead to 8-1. 

AUM pushed two more runs across the plate to close out the game in the sixth inning and claim the win over the Tigers. 

Hannah Mynard (9-4) absorbed the loss for the Tigers. The junior pitcher gave up six earned runs off seven hits, struck out four and walked six over 5.2 innings of work. 

AUM pitcher Morgan Ferguson claimed the win for the Warhawks. She pitched six innings, giving up one earned run and striking out four.

Game Two
The Tigers battled hard in game two of the doubleheader, but came up short in the eleventh inning, allowing AUM to claim the 5-4 win. 

The Tigers had five hits compared to the Warhawks' 12. Nicole Buccieri, Noland and Matlock each had one. Rylie Grantz collected two hits and one RBI. LP Trammell and Matlock also had an RBI. 

AUM scored three runs in the second inning to start things off. 

Grantz hit her first home run of the season in the third inning to cut the Warhawks' lead, 3-1.

UWA pushed two runs across the plate in the sixth inning to bring the game to a 3-3 tie. Matlock doubled, driving in Kacy Noland. Bases were loaded and Trammell walked, allowing Taylor Clegg to score.

In the 10th inning Johnson reached on an AUM error, bringing Kelsie Gilliam across the plate. The Warhawks tied the game, 4-4, with another run in the bottom of the 10th. 

AUM closed out the game in the 11th inning with a sacrifice fly, allowing the Warhawks to claim the 5-4 win. 

Noland (2-4) took the loss for the Tigers. She pitched 10.2 innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out six. 

AUM pitcher Brinkley Yevak (2-2) pitched 5.2 innings for the Warhawks. She gave up no earned runs to claim the win for AUM.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday to close out the weekend series against Auburn Montgomery with a single game. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at AUM Softball Complex.
