Tigers Fall in GSC Tournament Semifinals to UAH

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - West Alabama men's basketball team fell to No. 4 seed Alabama Huntsville 76-65 in the semifinals round of the GSC Championship Tournament on Saturday at Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University. 

The Tigers dropped to 24-6 overall, while Alabama Huntsville improved to 21-10 overall. UAH will take on the winner of Lee University and Union in the championship game. 

UWA shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the field, 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from the three-point range, and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the free throw line. 

Justin Allison led the Tigers with 25 points and four rebounds in the matchup. The Pelham, Ala. native went 9-for-16 from the field, 6-for-11 from beyond the arc, and 1-for-2 from the free throw line. Shardarrion Allen added 11 points and eight rebo18unds. 

It was a back-and-forth battle in the first half. The Tigers were trailing by one before heading into halftime 35-34. Allison led the Tigers at halftime with 11 points. Allen followed behind him with nine points and six rebounds. 

Coming out of the half, Alabama Huntsville stretched the lead to 37-34 off a layup. At the 13:59 mark, the Chargers improved the lead to 51-41. 

With 5:05 remaining in the second half, Allison drained two three-pointers and Kavan Hill knocked another one down to cut the Chargers lead to 67-59, but UAH continued to out score the Tigers and claimed the 76-65 victory over UWA. 

UAH gained 26 points off turnovers compared to UWA's seven points. The Chargers also dominated the Tigers in the paint. Alabama Huntsville had 34 points in the paint compared to West Alabama's 18.

UAH shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the field, and 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from beyond the arc, and 64 percent (16-of-25)  from the free throw line.

CJ Williamson led the Chargers with 28 points and seven rebounds.

With the GSC Tournament run done, the Tigers await their postseason fate and will have an answer come Sunday as the NCAA Division II Men's Tournament field will be announced.
