Women's Tennis Wins Close Match at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – West Alabama women's tennis won a close match at Delta State 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Cleveland Country Club in Gulf South Conference action. 
 
"We rested some of our players today and Delta came out fighting earning the doubles point. Heden (Ly) won a tough match in three sets to clinch the victory for us," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said.  
 
West Alabama improved to 13-4 overall and remains unbeaten in GSC action at 8-0, while Delta State fell to 3-10 and 1-8. 
 
Delta State took the doubles point winning two of the three matches. 
 
The Tigers bounced back in singles play, winning at four of the six courts to push the Tigers over the Lady Statesmen. 
 
Almudena Sanz won at No. 1 singles against Alena Macharova 6-0, 6-0. Ming Deewajee played No. 2 singles and won 6-4, 6-1. Hardija Vidnere defeated Lavinia Horning 6-1, 6-4. 
 
Heden Ly went three sets after losing the first set but bouncing back and winning the last two to claim the victory for West Alabama. Ly defeated Sofia Pepe 6-7, 7-6, 6-0. 
 
UWA returns home on Saturday against Auburn-Montgomery at 2 p.m. at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
