Women's Tennis Takes Alabama State Down

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – West Alabama women's tennis defeated Alabama State 4-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center in a nonconference match. 
 
West Alabama improves to 14-4 overall with the win over the Division I opponent and the Hornets fall to 10-9. 
 
"A good win for the women, they continue to take care of business, and this should give us momentum going into a critical match against Auburn-Montgomery this week," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said. 
 
The Tigers took the doubles point with Katia de la Garza and Haina Franco winning 6-3. Almudena Sanz and Irawan Deewajee won 6-3 at doubles to clinch the point. The third doubles match was left unfinished. 
 
Sanz won singles No. 1 against Alabama State's Sahra Bouchaala 6-3, 6-3. Garza won against Urska Velec 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Deewajee beat Ana Tarbujaru 7-5, 6-3 on court five to claim the victory for the Tigers. The remaining singles matches were left unfinished. 
 
West Alabama returns to Montgomery on Saturday to take on Auburn-Montgomery in a Gulf South Conference match with perfect 8-0 conference records on the line for both teams.
