AUM Wins Series with Doubleheader Sweep over UWA

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After taking a mercy-run rule loss on Friday night at the hands of West Alabama, Auburn-Montgomery repaid the Tigers with one of its own Saturday before closing the series with a third-game pitchers' duel victory to claim the series.
 
The Warhawks jumped to an eight-run lead in the opener before putting the Tigers away, 21-2. Both starting pitchers went the distance in game two as AUM held on for a 2-0 victory.
 
The Tigers dropped to 9-25 overall and 7-11 in GSC action, while the Warhawks improved to 20-14 and 10-8. 
 
Brenton Thiels (2-4) and Peyton Warren (3-6) absorbed losses for the Tigers. Thiels worked two complete innings in game one while giving up eight runs on eight hits. Warren worked six innings in game two, allowing two runs, one earned, while scattering six hits. Thiels was one of five Tiger pitchers in game one that allowed 19 hits and 20 earned runs 
 
Andrew Cronan (6-2) and Luke Turner (5-1) earned the pitching wins for the Warhawks. Cronan worked six innings in game one, giving up two earned runs on five hits. Mason Elmore pitched the final inning, striking out two of the four batters he faced. Turner struck seven Tigers in game two, shutting out West Alabama on four hits. 
 
UWA collected 10 hits combined in the two games. Kyle Vogler extended his hit-streak to six games.  
 
AUM's Zach Dew went 5-for-7 in the twinbill drove in a run. Mario Galloway and Brody Syer each had a home run in the first game and Syer was one of four Warhawks with three RBI in the opener. The homers were the sixth and first for Syer and Galloway, respectively.
 
UWA will look to rebound at Tartt Field when Southeastern Baptist College visits the Tigers for a midweek nonconference game Tuesday at 3 p.m. AUM visits Miles College Wednesday at 3 p.m.
