Tigers Defeat Montevallo in Final GSC Regular Season Match

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama men's tennis picked up a win on Saturday against Montevallo at the Vaughan Tennis Complex with a final score of 6-1 in the final Gulf South Conference regular season match.
 
The Tigers improve to 9-9 overall and 6-3 in GSC play. The Falcons fall to 7-11 overall and 4-5. 
 
"This was a good win for the men to close out regular season, we will now shift our focus to the GSC Championships," head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said. 
 
The Tigers took two of the three doubles courts to gain the first point of the match. 
 
In singles play, Marcel Hornung and Phillippe Zehender split the first two sets and then Hornung bounced back to win the third set and claim the point. 
 
Lucas Hammond and Patricio Nieto dropped their first sets and rebounded to win the next two to take the two points on No. 5 and No. 6 singles. 
 
Loic Danze defeated Sergi Martinez 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles and Ilari Vesanen came out on top in No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2. 
 
UWA will return to the courts on Thursday in the first round of GSC Men's Tennis Championships. The opponent and first serve time will be announced later in the week.
