Tigers Fall in DH to UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - West Alabama softball team dropped two games to Alabama Huntsville Saturday afternoon at Charger Park. The Tigers took a 7-1 defeat in game one and lost 5-2 in game two.
 
The Tigers dropped to 26-22 overall and are now 15-14 in the GSC. The Chargers improved to 34-14 overall and are now 20-9 conference play. 

Game One
West Alabama took a 7-1 defeat from Alabama Huntsville after the Chargers had a big five run fifth inning. 

Kelsie Gilliam tallied two hits in the matchup while Cassie Matlock collected one to combine for a total of three compared to the Chargers 10. The only run of the game for the Tigers came when Matlock doubled in the third inning, scoring LP Trammell.

Hannah Mynard (13-6) was tagged with the loss and gave up even seven earned runs on eight hits. She struck out two and walked five over 4.2 innings of work.

Breanna Fortenberry pitched 1.1 innings. She scattered two hits, giving up no earned runs and striking out one. 

Layton Murphy (14-7) claimed the win for the Chargers. She gave up one earned run on three hits, struck out three and walked one over seven innings.

Game Two
The Tigers took a 5-2 loss from the Chargers in game two of the doubleheader

The Tigers combined for seven hits. Mynard and Gilliam collected a pair of hits. Kacy Noland, Nicole Buccieri, and Kendall Johnson each had a hit. Noland and Johnson added a double. 

Noland (5-8) gave up two earned runs on five hits and struck out two over six innings of work. 

Megan Shurtz (13-4) gave up two earned runs on seven hits and struck out three over seven innings. 

UAH started things off in the bottom of the first inning, pushing four runs across the plate. The Chargers added one more run in the fourth inning. 

The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning when Buccieri's sacrifice fly scored Gilliam. UWA added another run in the seventh when Johnson doubled, bringing Mynard across the plate. 

UAH held onto the lead and closed out the game with a 5-2 win over UWA.

The Tigers return to action Sunday at noon to close out the GSC series against Alabama Huntsville with a single game.
