Softball Falls to Montevallo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama softball team suffered a 14-4 loss to Montevallo in the first game of the Gulf South Conference weekend series Friday evening at UWA Softball Complex. 

The Tigers dropped to 17-17 overall and are now 9-10 in GSC play. The Falcons improved to 21-12 and are now 11-6 in the conference. 

Hannah Mynard and Kelsie Gilliam collected two hits each. The Tigers had a total of seven hits compared to the Falcons 10. 

Kacy Noland started things off in the first inning by hitting her fourth home run of the season.
Nicole Buccieri's sacrifice fly brought Taylor Clegg home, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. 

The Falcons had their best inning in the second. Montevallo pushed six runs across the plate, giving them a 6-2 advantage over the Tigers. 

UWA added another run in the second inning when bases were loaded and LP Trammell walked, scoring Karley McDaniel. McDaniel pinch ran for Grace Self

Over the next three innings the Falcons combined for a total of seven hits and eighth runs to gain a big 14-3 lead over UWA.

Rylie Grantz also hit her fourth home run of the season in the sixth inning, but it was not enough. The Falcons closed out the game in five innings and claimed the 14-4 victory over the Tigers. 

Mynard (9-5) pitched 2.1 innings, giving up 10 earned runs, striking out one, and walking four. 

Breanna Fortenberry gave up three earned runs over 2.2 innings of work.

Mychael McMillian claimed the win for the Falcons. She gave up four earned runs, struck out six, and walked for over five innings of work. 

Montevallo's second baseman Sydnee Pawlak went 2-for-3 from the plate. She had six RBIs and scored three runs. She had two home runs in the game.

The Tigers return to action Saturday to face Montevallo in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at UWA Softball Complex.
