LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama senior running back Demetrius Battle was named to the College Gridiron Showcase (CGS) Watch List for the 2023 NFL Draft.
Battle is coming off of a season in which he was selected to the First Team All-Gulf South Conference compiling 934 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 161 carries. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry and over 93 yards per contest. In the passing game, Battle added 16 receptions for 96 yards, with a long of 14 yards. He rushed for at least 100 yards in six games, with a season-high 170 yards against North American, adding GSC Player of the Week honors following that performance. Battle found the end zone in six games, posting multiple rushing scores in four games and had a high of three, also against North American.
It was a breakout season for Battle in 2021, as he had a combined 328 rushing yards in 2019 and the shortened 2020 season. Used as a goal line back, Battle was the go-to in the red zone his first season in 2019, tallying eight rushing touchdowns.
The CGS Watch Lists are comprised by a panel of college and pro football experts, and this year's features a comprehensive (and evolving) list of nearly 1,000 major college prospects that represent FCS, Division II, III, NAIA and select players from around the world.
West Alabama opens the 2022 campaign on Sep. 3 at Morehouse in Atlanta with game time set for 5 p.m. (Central).
