Women's Soccer to Play at CSU Invitational

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama women's soccer team returns to action as they take on Columbus State on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Edward Waters on Sunday at 10 a.m. The matches will be played at the Walden Soccer Complex as part of the CSU Invitational.

"We know we will face a tall task, CSU has an attractive style of play and will have a large fan base supporting their team Friday night," head women's soccer coach Graeme Orr said. "This will be a great experience for young team to compete against a NCAA powerhouse and one of the best coaches in the division."

Dana Cruz returns for the Tigers and was named to the GSC All-Preseason Team. Cruz knocked in a team-high of seven goals and 15 shots-on-goal during the 2021 season. Midfielder Mikayla Anderson is back after scoring two goals and two assists last season.

Sophomore Dior Wilson and graduate student Maria Mon are the goalkeepers for West Alabama. Wilson played in one game during the 2021 season and recorded one save. Mon is a graduate transfer from Wofford College where she played in 13 games and had 60 saves.

UWA's Aileen Charles and Summer Fox were named to the 2022 GSC Newcomer Watch List. Charles is a Forward from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Fox is from Grovetown, Georgia and will play midfielder.

Columbus State is ranked 15^th in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll after having a 19-3-1 record and advancing to the second round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Tournament.

Columbus State's Carley Canzoneri, Emma Beddow, Rachel Sweigard, and Lauren Barnes earned Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference Team honors. The Cougars were selected to finish in second place in the coaches poll.

Edward Waters finished the 2021 season with a 6-7 record. EWU's Queen Moore scored 11 goals and Claudia Mate had eight assists during the 2021 campaign.

EWU will play Friday against Christian Brothers before they take on UWA.

Both matches will offer live stats and can be found at the link below. The Columbus State match will be live streamed and the Edward Waters match will NOT be broadcasted.
