West Alabama Gets Shutout Victory Over Edward Waters

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Five different West Alabama women's soccer players scored a goal in the 5-0 victory over Edward Waters on Sunday morning at the Walden Soccer Complex in the Columbus State Invitational.
 
"Congratulations to the ladies on getting the first win of the season," head coach Graeme Orr said. 
 
West Alabama moves to 1-1 on the season and Edward Waters falls to 0-2. 
 
Emily Callahan scored in the third minute off an assist by Aileen Charles. In the 10th minute, Paige Laidler found the back of the net to put UWA up 2-0. 
 
In the 27th minute, Anna Dickov scored a goal that was unassisted. Silis Demirici made a pass to Venla Makela and she found the net to put West Alabama up 4-0 in the 40th minute. 
 
Kaylee Rivas scored the final goal for UWA in the 66th minute off a pass from Dickov.
 
Neither team scored a goal in the final 23 minutes of the nonconference match. 
 
UWA took 26 shots with 11 being on target. Edward Waters had three shots and they were all shots-on-goal. 
 
Maria Mon started the first half as West Alabama's goalkeeper and recorded a save, her eighth of the season. Dior Wilson played the final 45 minutes and had two saves. 
 
Edward Waters' goalkeeper Sheila Pascual played the full match and had six saves. 
 
The match had five total fouls with UWA having three and EWC had two. EWC had one yellow card given out.

West Alabama will return to the pitch on Friday at Tusculum in the final nonconference match, before Gulf South Conference play kicks off on Sept. 9 against Spring Hill.
