Men's Soccer Heads to Florida for Two Matches

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The UWA men's soccer team will return to the pitch against two Sunshine State Conference opponents beginning Friday at Eckerd and at Saint Leo on Sunday.
 
The Eckerd match will begin at 6 p.m. at Johnson Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Saint Leo game will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Saint Leo Soccer Field in Saint Leo, Florida. 
 
The Tigers are 0-1 after starting the season with a loss at Carson-Newman.
 
During the 2021 season, West Alabama defeated Eckerd 2-0. The two teams will meet for the fourth time and the Tigers own a 2-0-1 overall record against the Tritons.
 
Harry Colville leads the Tigers with three shots taken and he scored the only goal of the season.
 
Yannick Pohland, Baronyi Kengeye, and Patrick Sacher have all taken one shot.
 
Eckerd brings in a 0-0-1 record with the tie coming against Gulf South Conference member Delta State.
 
Blake Bauer scored the only goal for the Tritons. Lynden Dawson brings in four saves to the match.
 
West Alabama and Saint Leo met during the 2021 season and UWA earned a 1-0 win. Saint Leo defeated the Tigers 1-0 during the 2014 season.
 
Saint Leo is 2-0 this season with upset wins against No. 8 Auburn Montgomery and No. 24 West Florida.
 
Saint Leo's Noah Kvifte and Tyler Valazquez have scored one goal apiece. Saint Leo will host Trinity College on Thursday night.
 
The Lions' goalkeeper Ricardo Ceballos earned United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week honors after posting two shutouts and four saves.
