Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Defeats UAH 2-1 in GSC Matchup

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team picked up their third win in a row by taking down the University of Alabama Huntsville 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Stadium in a Gulf South Conference match. 
 
The Tigers improve to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in GSC play. The Chargers move to 1-4-2 and 0-2-1. 
 
West Alabama scored one goal in the first half when Mikayla Anderson found Dana Cruz in the 22nd minute and the Tigers led 1-0. Cruz's goal was her third of the season. 
 
Saylor Richard scored her first goal this season in the 53rd minute to put UWA on top 2-0. The goal was assisted by Cruz. 
 
The Chargers tried to make a comeback in the second half when Helena Gonzalez scored a goal to bring UAH within one goal. The comeback attempt fell short as the Tigers held onto the lead and got the victory. 
 
West Alabama took 14 shots and six were on-goal. Cruz took six shots and three were on frame. 
 
Alabama Huntsville attempted 11 shots, with five on-goal. Hailey Hicks was in the back of the net and had four saves. 
 
West Alabama's goalkeeper Maria Mon picked up four saves and brought her season total up to 27. 

The match had 19 fouls with 10 on West Alabama and nine on UAH. Two yellow cards were handed out.

The Tigers will return to play on Friday at Delta State in a GSC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Delta Field.
