Women's Soccer Drops GSC Match at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team took a 1-0 defeat to Delta State University on Friday afternoon at Delta Field in Gulf South Conference action.
 
UWA slides to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in GSC action. Delta State improves to 6-4 and 3-2.
 
Delta State scored an early goal in the 10th minute when Ella McQueen scored a goal off an assist by Poppy Derhun. The goal was McQueen's third of the season.
 
Sierra O'Grady, Dana Cruz, and Paige Laidler all took one shot-on-goal for West Alabama. Laidler took one shot that was not on goal.
 
Laidler and O'Grady had chances in the 67th and 69th minute, but both shots were saved by Delta State's goalkeeper Bailey Daugherty.
 
Daugherty played the full 90 minutes and had three saves for DSU.
 
West Alabama's goalkeeper Maria Mon had four saves and brought her season total up to 31.
 
The match had 25 fouls and 13 went to UWA, while the Lady Statesmen had 12.

The Tigers will stay in GSC play as they take on Mississippi College on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. Delta State will host Alabama Huntsville on Sunday.
