Dana Cruz Scores Two Goals in 2-1 Victory Over CBU

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team grabbed a win on Friday night at Tiger Stadium against Christian Brothers University 2-1 in Gulf South Conference action. 
 
The Tigers improve to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in GSC play. CBU drops to 6-4-1 and 3-3-1. 
 
Christian Brothers' Cheyenne Smith scored a goal in the fifth minute to give the Bucs an early 1-0 lead. The goal was Smith's 13th of the season. 
 
Dana Cruz found the equalizer less than a minute later off an assist from Mikayla Anderson
 
Cruz scored her second goal of the night in the 28th minute on a penalty kick to give West Alabama the lead. Cruz has now made five goals this season. 
 
West Alabama took seven shots and CBU took 10 shots. Both teams took five shots-on-goal. 
 
West Alabama's goalkeeper Maria Mon had four saves, while Christian Brothers' goalkeeper Chloe Hillyer had three saves. 
 
The Tigers were called for 14 fouls and the Bucs had 12 fouls. 
 
One yellow card was handed out during the game in the 89th minute to Christian Brothers.

West Alabama will have a quick turnaround as they host Union University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in a GSC game. Christian Brothers will travel to Alabama Huntsville.
