Hawks Cruise by Tigers, 72-59

ROME, Ga. - West Alabama women's basketball team took a 72-59 defeat from Shorter University Saturday evening inside Winthrop-King Centre. 
 
The Tigers dropped to  10-11 overall and are 7-10 in GSC play. The Hawks improved to 2-18 overall and are now 2-15 in the conference.
 
Bria Dent led the Tigers' offense with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Jala Williams posted 15 points, four assists, and four rebounds. Maryanne Logsdon added 13 points, three rebounds, and two steals.  
 
UWA trailed the whole game. Shorter combined for 36 points in the first half of the game, holding the 11-point advantage at halftime, 36-25. The Tigers combined for 34 points in the third and fourth quarter, but it was not enough. The Hawks came away with the 72-59 win.
 
The Hawks shot 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from the floor, 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 71.9 percent (23-of-32) from the free throw line. Derrica McCall led Shorters' offense with 16 points. 
 
The Tigers host Mississippi College on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
