HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The University of West Alabama volleyball team dropped in three sets to the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Saturday afternoon from Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
UAH, who has secured a berth in the upcoming Gulf South Conference Championship, improved to 14-8 overall and 10-2 in conference play. UWA dropped to 4-22 and 1-11.
The Tigers rallied from a 6-2 deficit to take a 9-8 lead after four straight points thanks to two attack errors and kills from
Peyton Quesnel and
Jaida Alvin.
After each team traded points, UAH only allowed UWA to side out just once for the rest of the set, finishing on a 16-1 run.
The second set saw UWA bounce back from a slow start with four kills and nine attack errors to 10 kills and three errors. However, UAH, after posting a .233 swing percentage of 10 kills and three errors on 30 attacks in the first set, committed just one attack error and 14 kills to cruise to the 25-13 set victory.
The third set was a back and forth battle. West Alabama reclaimed the lead, 23-22 after a service error and a
Berfin Mertcan kill.
UWA did have set point, 24-23, after
Gracie Huver netted a kill, but UAH quickly had a side out and won the final three points to take the match.
UAH finished the match with 40 kills and a .303 attack percentage, and they limited UWA to 23 kills.
Jaida Alvin recorded seven kills and five digs, while
Ally Craig added eight digs.
Zoe Smith led the Chargers with 14 kills, while Autumn Mayes tallied the double-double with 13 digs and 12 kills.
West Alabama will conclude the road schedule with a trip to Auburn Montgomery on Tuesday night.
