Men's Soccer Falls in GSC Quarterfinal by Penalties to Lee

LIVINGSTON, Ala.- The University of West Alabama men's soccer team was eliminated on penalties shootout 4-2 after a 110-minute grudge match with Lee inside Tiger Stadium.  

The Tigers finished the match down a man after a red card was given to West Alabama in the 69th minute. 

The Flames out shot the Tigers on goal nine to two and 23 to seven overall on the night. Tigers Goalie Lasse Schwieren posted nine saves in the 110 minutes of play before Penalties.  

West Alabama elected to make a goalie change for the penalty kick attempts, substituting Landon Sorrell for Schwieren.  

Lee's Marcos Garcia made the first attempt, putting Lee up 1-0. The Tiger's Shane Pettit answered with a make on Jakob Buhrkuhl, tying things up. Lee's Ruben D'Hollosy scored on Sorrell to set the deficit at 2-1. Ellis Williamson answered for the Tigers tying things up at 2. Matias Siems gave Lee the advantage with another make. Connor Duggan of the Tigers missed the 3rd UWA Attempt, putting the Tigers in peril. Lee's David Koch fired off another to make it 4-2. David Nunez stood as the Tiger's last hope to hang in but missed off the crossbar to give the Flames the victory.  

West Alabama falls to 8-2-6 on the year, while Lee Advances to 8-5-4 on the year, with a trip to the GSC Semifinals against West Florida as their reward. West Alabama currently sits at number ten in the South Region rankings, as an NCAA Tournament bid is still a possibility. Selections will be announced after the conclusion of Conference Tournaments.
